The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has finally released official automotive sales data in Indonesia throughout 2023. This data includes several data such as wholesale sales, retail sales, car production, exports and imports.
Based on retail sales data, it is known that national car sales did not reach the target of one million units. Throughout 2023 retail car sales will only reach 998,059 units.
This figure actually decreased compared to retail sales achievements throughout 2022 which reached 1,013,582 units.
Even though there has been a decline in retail transactions, the composition of the top 10 largest car sellers in Indonesia has barely changed.
Toyota continues to hold the top position with total sales throughout 2023 reaching 325,395 units. Likewise, the second position is still held by Daihatsu with retail sales reaching 194,108 units.
The third position is also still filled by Honda with retail sales of 128,010. The exchange of positions actually occurred between Mitsubishi and Suzuki.
If in 2022 Suzuki is in fifth position, then in 2023 its position will rise to fourth. The position originally filled by Mitsubishi in 2022 has now been released because the manufacturer with the three diamond logo will instead be in fifth position in 2023.
Well, what’s interesting is what happened to Hyundai. In 2023, Hyundai will succeed in sending 35,736 cars to consumers.
This achievement makes Hyundai now in sixth position. Up two levels compared to retail sales in 2022.
Hyundai retail sales in 2023 will also increase. In 2023 the retail sales figure will reach 35/736, while in 2022 the retail figure will only be 30,193 units.
Previously, Atsushi Kurita, President Director of PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) admitted to their lack of sales in Indonesia. This happened because the supply of Mitsubishi Triton and Mitsubishi L300 was hampered from Thailand and Malaysia.
As a result, sales made by Mitsubishi only relied on their passenger cars such as the Mitsubishi Xpander-Xpander Cross and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Even their newest ammunition, the Mitsubishi XForce, will only be delivered to consumers at the end of 2023.
“Now the Mitsubishi Triton and Mitsubishi L300 are being produced again in Indonesia,” said Atsushi Kurita.
