Daihatsu Indonesia Freezes Exports, Claims Car Owners Remain Safe

Daihatsu Motor Corp’s announcement that halted car deliveries in the domestic and overseas markets due to deviations in car production finally had an impact on Indonesia. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) confirmed that it had frozen export distribution following Daihatsu Motor Corp’s announcement.

Export distribution is frozen until ADM receives confirmation from the authorities in the export destination country. “Efforts will be made as soon as possible to obtain confirmation, so that ADM can fulfill export requests according to plan,” wrote ADM’s official statement.

According to ADM, Daihatsu Motor Corp’s decision has no impact on domestic production. ADM ensures that production and distribution of Daihatsu cars in Indonesia will continue as usual.

“It has been determined that ADM’s domestic production will continue to operate normally in accordance with plans to meet market needs in Indonesia,” explained Daihatsu.

They also ensure that deviations from car production procedures recognized by Daihatsu Motor Co do not result in quality and safety problems. They stated that all Daihatsu vehicles produced, distributed and marketed in Indonesia have complied with applicable regulations.

“And, we also continue to coordinate with the Indonesian government authorities. Daihatsu customers can still use their vehicles safely and comfortably,” emphasized Daihatsu.

It is known that on December 20 2023, Daihatsu Motor Co and Toyota Motor Corporation held a joint statement regarding the results of an investigation into irregularities in car production procedures at the Daihatsu factory. The results of the report stated that there were 174 procedural errors in the production process in 64 cars and three engines.

The massive findings made Daihatsu and Toyota agree to stop sending cars to both domestic and foreign markets.

“There were 174 deviations discovered and affected on 64 models and three engines for local models and foreign markets. All of them are still in production and development. This also includes remanufacturing as OEM for other companies. This was seen on 28 domestic models and 16 market models internationally,” explained Hiromasha Hoshika, Executive Vice President of Daihatsu Motor Co.
