2024, Mazda’s Electrification Era in Indonesia Begins

Mazda Indonesia has a lot of big work to do in 2024. No joke, they will present six new cars in the year of the wooden dragon.

The surprise is that in that year, Mazda will actually start the era of electrification in Indonesia. This is because three of the cars presented by Mazda are electrified cars.

Managing Director of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) Ricky Thio at the Mazda Media Gathering event in Jakarta, Wednesday (29/11/2023) immediately revealed the details of the plan. He explained that three of the models were launched in the first semester, while the other three were prepared to be paved in the second half.

“In the first half of 2024 there will be a roadster car which is an update of the existing Mazda model. After that, there was the launch of the compact SUV and medium SUV. “But, I can’t say right now, what model the CX is,” said Ricky Thio.

Only in the second semester of 2024, Mazda will begin to attack the electric car market in Indonesia. There are mild hybrid technologies, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), to pure electric vehicles (battery electric vehicles/BEV).

“In the second semester of 2024, there will be new PHEVs. Next, there is a medium SUV with BEV technology. “Then, there is a model update for our new large premium SUV mild hybrid,” explained Ricky.

“Electrification is not just pure electric cars,” he continued.

So far, there is one electric car model that has been confirmed as ready to hit the roads in Indonesia next year. The model is the Mazda MX-30, a BEV with a distance of 209 km which in August 2023 was displayed at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

In 2023, Mazda will not be too aggressive in presenting new models to the Indonesian automotive market.

According to Mobil123.com records, throughout this year, they have fielded five models consisting of two limited edition models, one model that is completely new to this country, plus two minor model changes.

The complete list of their new cars this year is the Mazda CX-5 EMI 6th Anniversary Edition, Mazda6 20th Anniversary Edition, Mazda CX-60, New Mazda2 hatchback, plus New Mazda CX-5. Three of these models will only be ‘released’ by Mazda starting in the third quarter of 2023.
