Truck manufacturers in Indonesia want the government to consider providing incentives for electric vehicles. As has been given to the motorbike, bus and passenger car industries.
This was conveyed by Aji Jaya, Vice President and Sales Marketing Division of PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motor, manufacturer and distributor of Mitsubishi Fuso trucks in Indonesia, Wednesday (8/11/2023) yesterday. He said that currently his party has communicated with the relevant agencies so that these incentives can be provided.
However, according to him, up to now there is no clear certainty that there will be incentives for electric commercial vehicles that will be marketed in Indonesia.
“We are still waiting for electric trucks to be available too. Yes, at least the assistance is the same as other electric vehicles,” hoped Aji Jaya.
It is known that currently electric vehicles such as electric motorbikes, electric cars and electric buses do receive government incentives. Assistance for electric passenger cars is in the form of VAT exemption and a 0 percent rate for PPnBM. For purchasing electric motorbikes, a subsidy of IDR 7 million per unit is given.
It’s just that not all electric vehicles can get this incentive. Those who get it are electric vehicles that have been produced domestically with a local content level of up to 40 percent.
According to Aji Jaya, this is a bit difficult for the commercial vehicle industry. The reason is that until now many electric trucks are still imported using the CBU scheme.
“Currently, the Fuso eCanter is still imported. So CBU is imported. It has not been produced here. If the government requires production here, we can’t do it. It’s not that easy,” he explained.
Aji Jaya further said that Mitsubishi Fuso had brought the Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter to Indonesia for trials. From the several stages of the feasibility study that they carried out, many business actors in Indonesia are indeed interested in electric trucks.
From there, according to him, Mitsubishi Fuso will try to sell the electric truck in 2024. However, he said that until now there are no potential buyers of the electric truck with the three stars logo.
“Whether they want to buy it or not is still not clear to them. Because they still want to know more about the other benefits of using eCanter,” he explained.
