Honda Scooter Broken eSAF Frame Issue Has Damaged Impact for Used Motorcycle Market

Used motorbike dealers are starting to feel the effects of the issue of broken eSAF Honda frames on Honda scooters. The price of the scooter with the flapping wings logo is now starting to be difficult to raise.

Harso Kurniawan, a used motorcycle dealer in the Bekasi area, said that the issue of a broken Honda scooter frame has not dampened consumer interest. Until now, Honda scooter enthusiasts are quite high.

“It’s just that they are now more careful about prices. So we can’t sell them at a high enough price like before,” explained Harso Kurniawan, Sunday (20/8/2023) yesterday.

He said that many potential customers began to demand that the frame of their target Honda scooter would not break easily. The average young consumer asks to open the body of the Honda scooter they are after.

“Usually I’m told to look down myself because opening the body of the scooter is quite troublesome,” he explained.

The same thing is felt by another used motorcycle dealer, Ilham Kurniawan, who operates in the same area. He said that currently many potential customers who are eyeing Honda scooters are asking about the strength of the frame.

He admitted it was a bit much quite troublesome. Because the condition of used scooters is very different from the newly produced scooters.

“Actually, we also checked the frame before we sold it. It’s just that a used scooter has a slight reduction in performance and quality,” he said.

From there, he saw the issue of the broken frame of the Honda scooter being the most affected for used motorbike dealers. The reason is they also can not provide a comprehensive warranty and in a long time.

“We just have to wait this issue get cooled,” he hoped.

Previously, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) had provided clarification regarding the broken eSAF frames of the Honda scooter. Marketing Director of PT AHM Octavianus Dwi Putro explained, regarding this matter, his party needed to study every case experienced by their consumers. Because, he admitted, not all Honda owners experienced the same thing.

“We need to look at each case, yes. For consumers who experience similar incidents or other complaints, they can just report them for follow-up,” said Octavianus when met at ICE BSD, Tangerang recently.

Case-by-case investigations, continued Octavianus, are needed so that the handling of each problem finding by the consumer can be handled more precisely. He firmly will swiftly help consumers in various ways.

“Back then it depends on the case, yes. If one turns out to be caused by a misuse, next time we will help with suggestions so that it doesn’t happen again, we will also help with spare parts. Then if it is related to quality control, we will assist with further investigations to be handled immediately,” he explained.

He gave an example, if for example there was one case of a broken frame or motorbike frame and after investigation it turned out that the owner of the motorbike lived near an environment that contains high acids such as coastal or sea areas which might cause the frame to corrode.

“For example, there is a case of a broken frame, when investigated it was caused by usage. That’s because (live) near the beach or the sea. So, there are a lot of cases, so I can’t talk (generalize), just case by case,” said Octavianus.

Regarding the problems that affect the frame, can the warranty be covered or not, Octavianus said the decision was based on the results of an investigation or investigation of each problematic motorbike.

“Depending on the case earlier, he still meets the criteria and warranty period or not. Everything has a time period and conditions,” he concluded.
