PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) revealed the investment value to produce a new model, the Yaris Cross Hybrid. To present a new car, Toyota is willing to spend trillions of rupiah to produce new units.
For your information, the Yaris Cross Hybrid is a model developed and produced in Indonesia. Carrying hybrid technology, Toyota also assembles batteries locally by building new lines.
TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto revealed that to present the latest model, the company had to disburse billions of rupiah. These funds are needed for research and investment in other equipment.
“For a really new model, it’s around IDR 1-2 trillion (investment). The Yaris Cross is IDR 2.5 trillion,” Nandi said when met at the Toyota Karawang Plant in Karawang, West Java, Monday (7/8 /2023).
However, the investment isn’t just for Toyota when it comes to a completely new model. But also component suppliers who will also produce various kinds of spare parts.
“In our (factory) (TMMIN) there is a new battery (assembly) line, new Yaris Cross welding. In addition, we are investing in suppliers in the form of tooling and others. The investment is not only in our line but also in some tooling in suppliers, ” said Nandini.
For your information, the production capacity of the TMMIN factory in Plants 1 and 2 currently reaches 257 thousand units per year. Despite presenting a new model, Nandi said that currently the factory in Karawang does not need a capacity increase.
“So there is still capacity. To go to capacity up (adding production capacity) I don’t think so. Indeed, the long-term plan certainly wants capacity up. But until now, until 2025 there is no capacity up plan. Now only 70-80 percent has been used. ” he said.
Produced locally, the Toyota Yaris Cross has a TKDN (Domestic Component Level) value of 80 percent. Meanwhile, the battery used has a TKDN value of 40 percent, with battery cells that are still imported directly from Japan.
