Toyota Hilux Champ, a light commercial car made by Toyota, finally launched for the first time in Thailand, this Tuesday (28/11/2023). The presence of this commercial car could be a benchmark for the price of the Toyota Rangga which will be sold in Indonesia.
The Toyota Rangga in Indonesia, the Toyota Hilux Champ in Thailand and the Toyota Tamaraw in the Philippines are indeed the same car. The names are different depending on the target market.
In Thailand itself, the Toyota Hilux Champ is available in eight variants and two engine choices, namely petrol and diesel.
The Toyota Hilux Champ is sold at a quite attractive price. This is because the lowest variant, namely the Toyota Hilux Champ 2.4 Diesel LWB MT, is sold at a price of 459,000 Baht or the equivalent of IDR 202.4 million.
On the other hand, the highest variant, namely the Toyota Hilux Champ 2.4 Diesel Attractive Package, is sold at a price of 577,000 Baht or around IDR 254.4 million.
In terms of price, the Toyota Hilux Champ is very cheap when compared to the Toyota Hilux. The cheapest price for a Toyota Hilux is known to be 564,000 Baht or around IDR 248.7 million.
This price is very attractive because it is very affordable. In Indonesia, the Toyota Hilux is sold starting at IDR 281.9 million. If the scheme in Thailand is carried out in Indonesia, the price of the Toyota Rangga could be below that price.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, the Toyota Hilux Champ comes with two dimension options, namely long and short wheelbase. The Toyota Hilux Champ with a short wheelbase has dimensions of 4,970 mm in length and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. On the other hand, the Toyota Hilux Champ with a long wheelbase has an additional length dimension of 330 mm and a stretchier wheelbase of 335 mm.
“This light commercial car does not replace the Toyota Hilux but is a pickup at an affordable price for Thai people,” said Paultan.
It is known that the Toyota Hilux Champ is a Toyota pickup with the International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) code. The pickup car will later be distributed to the Asian region, especially Southeast Asia, to stimulate the middle economic sector.
If in Thailand the name is Toyota Hilux Champ, then in Indonesia the name has changed to Toyota Rangga. Likewise in the Philippines, the name was changed to Toyota Tamaraw.
Previously, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) once explained that the Toyota Rangga is projected to fill the entry level commercial car market niche, positioned just below the Hilux.
“The Hilux costs close to IDR 300 million, this (Rangga) will fill the segment below that,” he said.
