16 Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles Ready to Energize Indonesia’s New Capital

A total of 16 Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles have been delivered to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). There are three variants of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles that will be operating in Indonesia’s new capital.

The three variants are the Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, and Mercedes-Benz EQS Saloon. These electric vehicles were handed over by PT Inchcape Indomobil Distribution Indonesia, the distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Indonesia, to the Presidential Secretariat to support the 79th Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia.

“We are honored to support the Indonesian government’s vision for a more sustainable Indonesia,” said Khoo Shao Tze, President Director of Inchcape Automotive Indonesia. “Mercedes-Benz’s participation in this event goes beyond just a celebration; it reflects our commitment to significantly advancing the transformation of electric vehicles in Indonesia. We are excited to see our electric vehicles play a key role in shaping the future of mobility in IKN,” he added.

Unfortunately, details regarding the use of these 16 Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles in IKN have not been disclosed. Previously, the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) drew attention for renting 1,000 Toyota Alphard vehicles for the 79th Independence Day celebration in IKN.

The use of these premium SUV vehicles was criticized by the public due to the high costs involved. It was reported that renting one Toyota Alphard cost Rp 25,000, totaling an expenditure of Rp 25 billion. The Presidential Secretariat immediately denied the rental of these vehicles, stating that all vehicles used in IKN are electrified. Guests will be using electric cars and electric buses.
